Cycle training for everyone

To book call 07504 282133 or email

Pupils will be expected to bring their own roadworthy bicycle which will checked by our instructors. We loan each pupil a hi-visibility waistcoat and a protective cycling helmet (if they don’t have their own). It may also be possible – given notice – to provide a loan bike for a pupil who does not currently have access to a roadworthy bike but can cycle.

Checking your child's bike

The cycle training can be done on any sort of bike so long as it is roadworthy. You will need to check:

  • Wheels & tyres: tyres pumped up, wheel nuts tight, wheels should spin freely
  • Brakes: hold both brakes and try push the bike back & forth – it shouldn’t move. Check brake lever doesn’t hit handlebars.
  • Handlebars: hold front wheel between legs and try twist handlebars – they shouldn’t move
  • Bike fit & saddle: your child should be able to comfortably stand over the bike. Adjust the saddle so that the rider can just touch the floor and their leg is only slightly bent when their foot is at the bottom of the pedal stroke.

The checks above can be performed very quickly, and most adjustments made easily. If you are unsure to get the bike into roadworthy condition we recommend that it is checked over by a local bike shop. It is important that bikes are roadworthy but it’s more important that your child receives the cycle training. Remember if you do not have a suitable bike we may be able to provide a bike as long as you let us know well before the beginning of the course.
